-= Quake for Google Cardboard - Play Quake in true Stereoscopic VR =- WARNING: QUAKE IS A FAST PACED FIRST PERSON SHOOTER, INVOLVING QUICK MOVEMENT, STRAFING, JUMPING AND RAPID DIRECTION CHANGES. IF YOU ARE NOT USED TO PLAYING THIS SORT OF GAME IN VR YOU WILL MAKE YOURSELF SICK IF YOU TRY TO PLAY FOR TOO LONG. IF YOU START TO FEEL UNWELL, TAKE AN IMMEDIATE BREAK, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO "PLAY THROUGH IT", IT WILL GET WORSE! I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY TO YOU OR OTHERS, OR SICKNESS YOU MAY EXPERIENCE WHILE PLAYING THIS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED... Now the fun stuff... Shareware/Full Game assets are not included. You will need to download the shareware version** or purchase the full game in order to play Quake. In order to play the shareware or the full version of Quake that you already own: * Run the game once on your device, this will cause the appropriate folders to be created, it will also tell you which folder to copy the files to * Exit Quake for Cardboard * Now copy the pak files from the id1 folder of the full/shareware version to your phone into the Q4C/id1 folder * Restart Quake for Cardboard * It should now start properly, showing the game menu (with a demo playing behind) This port features the following: * Non-vr mode - still requires a gamepad to play, but you are not restricted to playing on a cardboard only, quickly switch to non-vr mode to play. Useful if you are changing settings or joining multiplayer servers as it is easier to configure the game in non-vr mode then switch to VR mode to play. * Configurable eye buffer resolution (for lower spec phones) - If you find your phone is struggling to draw at an acceptable framerate, you can adjust reduce the eye buffer resolution in the Options menu (it takes a moment to reset following a resolution change, be patient..) * Uses the excellent Darkplaces Engine * Quake re-texturing project support (http://qrp.quakeone.com/) * Online multiplayer * Supports mods (Nehahra for example) * Command line params using a text file - create a text file in the Q4C directory called commandline.txt and populate with any command line params you may wish to use * Requires a control pad (buttons are remappable in the game) * Requires Cardboard or equivalent with headstraps to play in VR-mode (as you need hands to hold gamepad) * Visit QuakeVR.com for more information Final Note: Why am I asking for money for this? The small payment, consider it a donation, for this app is for the effort that ended up being involved in the port. I had no interest in a Cardboard port, as I knew it would be significantly inferior to the Gear VR version I did, however I had enough people ask (beg..) about it, and agreed with me that a small amount would be acceptable for the trouble. It was then far more trouble than I expected it to be, I wasted weeks trying to get it working with the latest cardboard sdk, but in the end had to give up and roll back to an older version. As the original Quake code is GPL licensed, the full source for this will be available in an archive contained in the assets folder of the apk. If one person chooses to purchase, rebuild it, and distribute for free then they are at liberty to do so and there's nothing I can/will do to stop them, that's the whole point of GPL/Free Software.. I will be disappointed though. Please read the following if you are unfamiliar with the concept of Free Software: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html If you have issues, please send mail to the following address and I will endeavour to resolve them as soon as I can, within reason: support@quakevr.com ** You can download the shareware version of Quake for free from the following website, unpack the archive and you will find a file PAK0.PAK in the id1 folder of the resource.1 sub-archive, copy this to your phone and have fun: http://www.moddb.com/games/quake/downloads/quake-shareware-106
